South Platte River and Lakewood Gulch

Matrix designed, permitted and is overseeing the construction for a project for river restoration and improved floodwater conveyance.

This $20 million river restoration project near downtown Denver is one of the last remaining mitigation projects on the South Platte River to reduce major flood hazards in the Central Platte Valley. On-going work is widening and deepening the channel to improve conveyance capacity and protect the community and critical facilities and structures from flood hazards without reliance on berms or levees. Improvements include major grading, recreation-compatible drop structures, outcrop jetties, Xcel cooling tower intake, utility protection/relocation, retaining walls, a regional trail and revegetation.
