Matrix conducted the Fort Drum Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) to address encroachment issues involving the siting of energy projects, land restrictions as they relate to land and agriculture conservation, noise concerns, light issues, spectrum issues, urban growth, military area of influence, and endangered species. Working with community partners and Fort Drum, Matrix developed a set of recommended strategies to address the compatibility of land uses in the communities surrounding Fort Drum while addressing the need for the Fort Drum Garrison to maintain its mission. This process included a public involvement program to increase awareness of the Fort Drum military mission and the installation’s important contribution to the local economy as the largest single-site employer in New York State.
