Matrix volunteers have again returned to the Fountain Creek Watershed near Colorado Springs to participate in the 8th Annual Creek Week Cleanup. Matrix has been a proud sponsor of the Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District event since 2017, helping to raise awareness of watershed health and improving the overall health of the environment.

For this year’s event, Matrix volunteers covered over a mile and a half of Cottonwood Creek, collecting 25+ bags of trash — about a half ton! Matrix also participated in the Pikes Peak Litter Letter Project, an art installation made of 6-foot-tall, wire cage letters filled with trash collected from the watershed. Matrix’s haul was used for the letter “P” in “RESPECT.” This year’s focus on RESPECT grew out of the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance’s ongoing campaign to promote responsible use and good stewardship of local trails and outdoor spaces, especially in the wake of heavy usage during the COVID-19 pandemic. The installation is on display throughout the month of October near America the Beautiful Park.
