Following completion of the Rose Medical Center Master Plan, Design Studios West, a Matrix company, undertook site and landscape architectural design services for the Melvin and Elaine Wolf Surgery and Medical Office Building on the RMC campus. As landscape architectural subconsultants to HLM Design, Design Studios West addressed site planning issues including the addition of a four-story building to the Hale Parkway district, visitor and service circulation, valet parking facilities, and helipad relocation. Integration of the new facility with the Parkway was facilitated through the preservation of mature trees and depression of the valet parking area. Existing campus service areas were visually buffered with earth berming, planting, trellis-work and vines to create a new entry plaza for the building from what was the former, rear service entry to the campus. Outdoor pedestrian seating alcoves set within small gardens were designed to be equally attractive when viewed from outdoors or through the glass of adjacent indoor classrooms and building corridors. Design Studios West was responsible for site and landscape design, construction document preparation and construction administration of those improvements.
