Pope Air Force Base (AFB), located in North Carolina, was faced with a growing array of planning, operational, and engineering requirements and regulations evolving from constant changes in the local, federal, and global environments. Matrix Design Group was selected to update the General Plan for the installation.

Matrix planners prepared a comprehensive update of existing conditions, identification of opportunities and constraints, scoping of future mission needs, and development of alternative approaches for meeting these challenges.  Additionally, the Matrix team worked closely with Pope AFB command to develop detailed plans for flightline and industrial users that maximized the use of the limited land area available. These plans reflected key issues of joint use with Fort Bragg and compatibility issues with communities outside the base.  Major components of this project included: updating and integrating several existing area development plans into the general plan; documenting existing and future infrastructure needs; providing supporting GIS data; and creating a 3D computer simulation flyover showing current and future land uses and projects
