PFAS comprises a large class of fluorinated compounds that have been widely used in aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) for fuel firefighting purposes and many everyday consumer products, including nonstick cookware. PFAS compounds are a challenging environmental problem because they are very mobile, resistant to degradation, persist in the environment, and are difficult to detect.
